You could get a JDM tyte shifter extender. It's just a piece of rod a few inches long, with female threads on one end to thread onto the existing shifter, and male threads on the other to take the knob. I've seen them on 240 forums from time to time but all the Nissan 5-speed shifters are the same threads so they'll fit. It would add some extra length.

Say please.

Kidding.

I don't have a link. I'd suggest ebay - I think Mitsubishi and Mazda also use the same 10x1.25 threads.

I think they're usually called a "shifter extension." Good luck.

Ninja edit - I just did an ebay search and a bunch came up, not expensive either. Have fun.

The pre-discussed problem still exists if you get an extender. Either shorten the throw down below or it's going to be as silly as installing racing harnesses without a proper connection point!

its honestly pretty lame.

people have been blasting cars around tracks for 50 years with out the shifter being millia seconds away from the steering wheel.

we will continue to due so for as long as cars have manual trannys.

Personal opinion bud. I prefer the leverage and ease of shifting. I don't think I am super race boy when I am shifting with one such equipped car, but I love the feeling, try it you might like it. As previously mentioned...function over form.

You young'uns must have never seen the original 289 Cobra or the early Sunbeam Tigers. The shifter was about 6" tall. That put the knob just above the right leg about mid-thigh. If it was good enough for Shelby, it is good enough for me. It is all a matter of preference.
