Some damage pics from my old B13 transmission
A long while back my trans was making some bad noises, it sounded like rocks were tumbling around in the case. Needless to say I bought a B15 trans, swapped it, and had the old B13 trans sitting behind the shed in my backyard for 3 years. Well today I felt ambitious and pulled it apart to see what was up. The pics are of the main shaft front bearing area. I guess in order to repair this I need a new main shaft since this one is done. Just thought I'd post some pics of what I found since this probably happens to many people on the forum. Now people can use these pics for reference so they know what to look for when diagnosing trans problems. Enjoy.

That's it really...A chewed up main shaft and bearing. It's really not that spectacular but enough to make the trans sound like it is going to eat itself.

I so hope that was caused by some metal pieces and not something like a few grains of sand... maybe from a time when you sand blasted the transmission... and a little sand got in past the tape you used to block up the axles holes...

Sarcasm? It's not even about the pitting. See the higher raised area to the left of the pitting on the shaft....that's how big the end of the shaft is supposed to be. There was some serious wear going on. The T28 probably didn't help much either.

I was just ruminating on my last transmission repair. I replaced all four shaft bearings. Then I sandblasted it and painted it.

I found there was some sand that made it inside. I cleaned up most of it, but I just know there is some still inside. I'm debating putting in some crappy fluid for a couple miles then flushing it out and putting in the good stuff. Or if it will be okay.

It's been so long now another $40 won't kill me.

Ugh.
