Axle Carrier Bracket
Hey how's everybody doing today? My NX is down and i'm trying to get it back up...PLEASE someone help me! the last time i drove my NX it felt like my clutch was going out. it was having a hard time catching. i was about 2 seconds away from my house and the clutch wasn't grabing at all. no grinding noises or anything, it would just rev up. car still running i pop up my hood to see maybe i can see what the problem is and all of my transmission fluid is pouring out. i turn off my engine. i push my car to my driveway. and it's been sitting in my driveway for a good couple months.

i've finally gotten time to go under to see what the problem is and i see that my axle carrier bracket is hanging loose (?) all three bolts were missing. i have no idea how this would happen. it should be bolted to the block but for some odd reason all three were gone.

i have three questions. 1.) how would all three bolts just disapear? (what size are they and do i order them from nissan?)2.) becuase the bracket came loose and the axle wasn't stable would that of messed up my tranny 3.) if my tranny isn't messed up would i just have to replace the seal, rebolt the carrier bracket, and put the axle back in?

thank you for your time and hopefully i'll get my NX back on the road again : )

1) No idea, someone didnt put them on dude, the bracket slips into the block even by itself, takes a few taps with a hammer to get it in!
2) They are 2 different sizes btw the 3 of them, I say spend the $10 and get the right ones.
3) your tranny shouldnt' be too bad if you weren't far from home, but do this: take an aluminum can, cut off a strip, wrap it around your 1/2" ratchet head and take off the FILLER bung on your tranny first. If you end up wrecking it/not getting it off, you dont want to have taken off the drain one only to find you can't get the filler one off! Then pull the bottom one out. if it's gooped up with tonns of metal, you may have issues, but I'd still say spend the $14 on cheap-o tranny fluid, fill it, bolt the axle back on, and drive it for a bit. if it drives good, drain out the cheap fluid, pick up some mt-90 redline (4 quarts) and fill er' up.

oh, and check your axle for wear on the splines, partial disegagment may have f'd the tips of them.

^^these are all good suggestions...but I would just be careful what"cheap tranny fluid "you put in there.Even if it is for a short time.
I would rather just waste 40 bucks on some mt-90 ,than waste my tranny because of cheap or wrong fluid.

I meant basically to drive it around the block and listen for grinding.

If it is approved oil, "cheap" tranny fluid shouldn't hurt the transmission.

I agree with canx2k, find the proper bolts, if the axle and tranny splines are still in good shape (should be) throw the axle back in, top off the tranny and let her rip dude!

You got lucky

first of all do you even know if the bolts were on there to begin with?? because if they were then maybe they shered off during hard shifting striping the threads from the hole. so check to see if you even have threads left
