Factory mis-fit?
So I saw something the other day that said the SE-R ran a 15.9 bone stock from the factory. (correct?) I managed to pull a 15.9 in my car with nothing but a pop charger and a timing advance at an elevation of almost 5000 feet. Around town, this car just plain goes. In comparison to my B15, which is all of 200lbs heavier, the B15 just doesn't compare in the speed department.

So, possible that the JDM highport in my car is making a little more power than it's rated for? Any reason why I'm not an exhaust, set of cams, and a pair of slicks away from a 14 second quarter?

Every engine made is different in a small way. Sometimes people just get a really strong engine with good specs. Could be the casting of the exhaust, the intake, maybe you got lucky with rotating assembly parts that cast/forged to a very close weight.. who knows.

Keep in mind, as a motor ages, the compression tends to go up slightly due to carbon build up.

I know what you are experiencing, I have owned 3 SE-R's. A 92, 94 and a 91, the 92 would run circles around the other two. The 91 is probably slightly faster than the 94. The 94 was my slowest one and that one had intake, exhaust and headers. My 92 was just quick, the other two, not even close.

Wish I knew how many miles were on the motor in the car. I figure it's probably around 50-60k but I don't have any paperwork to tell me otherwise.

Well it IS truth that a B15 SR20 doesn't put down the power that a B13 SR20 does. Remember that even B14 SR20's make less power than the B13 SR20 due to emissions controls, etc.

Yeah, I'm presently kicking myself because I should have bought one a long time ago.:o

Thanks for the answers guys. Guess I just have a good motor under the hood, and that's all that matters. SR20 FTW.
