thanks guys - here's how I resolved it.

I thought about crimping it, but wanted to draw as little attention to it as possible, so I put a large bolt in the tube, then used this stuff
Techsteel

The bolt head was bigger than the tube, so the techsteel was just to hold it in place. seemed to work so far, we'll see after a week. Nice thing is though is it sucks air, so as long as the stuff seals, and can stand the heat of being close to the current egr bung I have in the hole currently (nissan part I forgot I had from an old motor swap sitting in my 'redneck-rific' yard). Works pretty slick
thanks for the help guys

That tech steel works wonders! There's another brand of it that I just used to seal the oil return boss on my DE+T block that I'm cleaning and re-doing for Jen.

They state that it can be re-tapped/drilled etc without any ill effects, so I'll be tapping it for a -10AN return fitting

Glad you got it sorted out.

New question. Now that I have the pipe blocked off, is the following assumption correct:

If I take off (and plug) the vaccum hose that goes from the bpt valve to the egr valve, the egr will not open, thus negating the need to block off the metal tube that goes to the 4th cyl exhaust port.

yes?

Thanks to char's post.
Found the answer on the other forum. figured if someone searches, they might want the quick fix answer:
I couldnt get mine to go in either, the pipe itself is slightly too long and hits inside of the header, wont allow you to tighten the bolt on the tube.

"Dont bother with a block off kit. There is a hose going from the BPT to the EGR, just pull that off and plug it up on the BPT side. That will stop the EGR from opening and sucking air in through the pipe. You can just use a screw to do it.

The one with the two lines going to it is the BPT which is what regulates the EGR. One of the tubes normally connects to the EGR, but as you see I disconnected the tube From The EGR and plugged it, leaving the EGR side open. Doing this basically stops the EGR from opening and drawing in any exhaust gasses... a very smart thing to do if you dont have the tube connected to the header.

The next thing you need to do is the resistor to stop a code from coming up..."

Unless you have emissions I'd just remove it entirely if you're going to stop it. Looks much cleaner and gets rid of unnecessary vacuum lines.

again, since I'm going ve, I'm not bothering with doing any sort of work on this engine since it's coming out in 4 weeks, so the 'quick fix' was strictly to bomb around for the next 4 weeks, then out she comes.
