EGR Bung size!?!
The item I'm speaking of is the pipe that comes off exhaust port #4. The size of it befuddles me.

I for the life of me can't figure this out. 7/8" is too small.
15/16" is too big.

22mm is too small
24mm is too big!

Is it just me or is this the dumbest thing ever made. I need a 29/32" or a 23mm wrench?! That's F'd. I tried a crescent wrench, and there isn't enough space to take it off. The same goes for the long tube at the bottom, below the o2 sensor spot. How am I supposed to get that *ish off there!?!

No idea, I think I used an adjustable wrench to install it. And it fell out eventually... and good luck if that happens. Not a single threaded object in the entire hardware store fit that damn hole! I had to get it welded shut at a car shop because even they had nothing!

Ran into the same probelm. Ended up using a plumbing pipe plug with some extreme high-temp epoxy cement. 23mm is the right size IIRC though....

I think I remember using large vice grips to loosen mine, and an adjustable crescent wrench after that. That thing is stupid.

I can't get anythign to work without stripping the f#r. any other suggestions would help, I've pb blasted the crap out of it 3x, torched it a couple, etc. I dont want to cut it if I can help it.

Vice grips have only failed me once ever for getting stuck sh!t out. Just get them as tight as you can possible manage to. You might also try a pipe wrench!

Vise grips X2 everything else just slipped off. I ended up just buying a new egr pipe afterwards.

ok - so I had to cut the pipe to get it off.

My question is this: can I just leave the pipe open to the atmosphere or put a breather on it? Doesn't the egr just regulate some exhaust gas into the intake, so therefore, regular air won't hurt anything? Or is there some sort of high temperature rubber I can bung it shut with? If I do bung it shut, would that damage anything in the egr system?

Ideas anyone? I'm at a loss.

You will end up with a big vacuum leak if you leave it wide open since it's post MAF.

K so plug the bish then is what you're saying. am I damaging anything by plugging the pipe, allowing no air through the egr?
