Effectiveness of Exhaust heat sheild
So I made a exhaust manifold heat shield today. I installed it every thing went smooth. Then when it came to testing it's effectiveness I noticed absolutely no difference in intake temperature or water temperature. Is this a mod that is more effective during driving conditions? Testing was done at Idle with hood closed heat shield on/heat shield removed.

I'm stifling the urge to point you to a local Physics 101 community college course, so bare with me.

Intake temps may or may not change based on the location of the intake in relation to the location of the exhaust manifold.

Water temperature, within limits, will not change at all, it being a closed-loop system and all; designed to maintain a temperature range based on the thermostat design.

Yes, this type of shield (I assume it is a physical, metal shield) is more effective when the car is moving, as it can only maintain the temperature differential for a short period of time before heat soak renders it ineffective.

Was this on an SR20 powered car? Does it belong in Offtopic?
