Looks pretty ugly, and another problem that I can see with this is water getting into the engine bay a lot easier.

One article that I found on this:
Do hood spacers work? The answer here... - 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum

That guy should have compared water temperatures not intake temperatures....

I would rather do a mod like this...

This sounds like crack science, something the Honda guys seem to be good at.

Sure, it may work, but it looks like crap + the only people I can see who would need even *more* heat dissipation would be a track car, but I don't think this would pass inspections? Plus, I'm sure it throws off the aerodynamics of the car so less mpg and possibly water in your engine bay

the thing you gotta take into consideration is that ALOT of guys in the honda world whom are doing this mod arent actually producing the kinda heat nor power that the mod might actually benifit.
so to test a relitivly stock engine with mild mods isnt really rellivent to the possibility of the mod actually doing its job, where as if you tesed a heavily modded turbo engine car that produces alot of power and alot of heat the benfit differences might be revealed

i did the mod today with the 3/8ths nylon spacers, i have yet to do any testing on it, but alls i know is my engine bay retains a bit of heat from the manifold, downpipe, turbo and radiator being is real close quarters so any way to relieve some of that excess heat will IMO be a benifit.

I dont see how raising the hood up will release the hot air when driving it. If you think about it the air will just go over the hood and go into the engine bay not escape it. Also the honda guys use this because of the itbs that they run I believe.

yes some are using it for itbs but you do have the air that is passing through the intercooler and the radiatore where is that air going? well if its going through the intercooler and through the radiator then it has to be going into the engine bay and if its going into the engine bay then where if the hood is closed is the hot air the engine is retaining escaping? that i tihnk is what people are thinking when they are doing the hood spacers that the air that is cooling off the radiator and the intercooler in my setup is escaping through the back of the hood.. that is what i personally think

well it may cause a cowl induction effect kind of a vortecs to draw out hot air ....

idk personally i think its a honda rice bullcrap but if it helps your performance then all the power to do it.

that was what alot of people were saying that the hood spacers have a efect like that, personally i dont really mind its not a ''pretty'' mod, however i have always been more fuction over form, thats basicly how my whole setup is, i apreciate function personally over form, but that is just me.

One of the import car magazines just did some testing on a miata last moth if i remember correctly and they realized some decently lower water temps through all types of driving.
