Just because it's free doesn't mean he doesn't own the copyright and images from the software, or at least have a say in how its used.

just to add to this - if he means he's copyrighted the cable then thats even worse - because that cable design is Calums DIY one that wasnt meant for commercial production, just DIY use! not only that, he got rid of the case that protects the board just to save a few $

he was also ripping off obd scantech software when it costs $, as he includes some hacked version of that with the cable. not as big an issue now (but he still does it last i heard) that obd scantech has become free. i asked the author of obd scantech if he had any deal with them (since he had a customised version that said emance in the title), but the author said there is no deal or anything, and he must have hacked the software to change the title and not require a serial (or includes one with it)

but everyones known for ages that everything he does is a ripoff of someone elses work - consult designs or commercial tunes or whatever else is there.

calum was not the first to make this stuff. plms was making consult adapters well before calum was. Also nissan data scan and nisstune have been around a long time. nissan data scan is free to down load.

PLMS wasnt the first either, and while they host some of the documents from the old nissan technical egroup, they werent the only ones involved in that either.

but that isnt the point - Calum didnt copy PLMS design, his circuit schematic and PCB design is considerably different, whereas emance copied Calums EXACT design, i mean his exact circuit board, not just the concept or idea. Calum posted the schematic and PCB designs for people to use to make their own personal DIY boards, and instead of designing his own PCB like conzult/zcontrol/plms/blazt/ecutalk/calum/gromerr/slipnfall and even the chinese ebay chunky ones (if the chinese didnt have to copy anyones exact circuit, then surely neither does anyone else), he just used the exact files provided by calum

calum posted the schematic so others could make their own stuff. plms did the same thing. if you post a diy kit you can't get upset when some one copies your work. I have more of a issue with them using calums software that I know he spent lots of time on. again this is why you patent things.
