This won't work. The oil in the catch can needs to drain back to the block and that takes gravity. Moving it somewhere else won't work.

The purpose is to allow an excape pathway for pressure in the crankcase during WOT (not necessarily vent the crank case with vacuum during idle and cruising). You could replace it with a catch can (vented to atmosphere if you'd like) with a separate drain lower in the engine bay (swiss has a good example of placement I think).

As far as I'm concerned, the real solution is the RR or VE valve cover like Vadim said. They have the catch can built into the valve cover and clean up the hose runs and engine bay much better.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, doesn't the rr/ve valve covers not fit highport engines?

Put a hose there and place a stainless steel wire brush in the line. I use the same one that can be found stock in the other PCV line. The oil will collect on the brush and drain back down in theory. I have been doing this for awhile and noticed no more blowby then when I had the oil seperator on.

is there maybe some sort of inline filter that can do the same thing?

I don't know? I don't even know if what I did actually works? You wouldn't want a filter you want surface area for the vapors to collect on. You definately wouldn't want anything that will soak up the vapors. It would need to be changed daily and never drain.

Hmm, where is the PCV one located? Inside the VC? I don't remember seeing that one. I will have to try this. I might have a spare box I can rip open and see what's really in there too.

In my 99 g20 I think it was originally in the hose that comes off the driver side of the VC and connects to the intake tube. I don't really remember as I haven't had it stock in years.

He's talking about the metal wire brush looking thing (looks like a section of large pipe cleaner made out of metal). This sits inside the PCV line that goes from the top/right of the valve cover to the intake before the throttle body. It's not an oil separator, although it might work well as one as described. It's main purpose is fire suppression I believe. I prevents the flame front from a back-fire from traveling down into the crankcase. The reason it doesn't act as an oil separator in the stock location is because gravity doesn't have anywhere useful to drain the oil to. Also that line doesn't need an oil separator really. The valve cover already has that built in. All those baffles on the top serve that purpose.
