An aftermarket gauge is great for seeing a real reading instead of the 3-setting (C, normal, H). But the time the OEM needle starts creeping up, you've already overheated.

Does it get "warm" while you're driving, or only when you're stationary?

If it does it while you're stationary, I'd change the T-stat, if its not a big deal for you to do.

heh, thanks man.. it happens in stop-n-go traffic, when any movement is really slow... The fans kick on when they're supposed to, the thermostat and radiator cap were changed out a few weeks ago, water wetter was added a week after that, and I watched grinch77 - Craig- bleed the system of air yesterday. There are no signs of coolant coming out of the weep hole on the water pump..

So now i'm waiting to see if stop-n-go traffic in 95+ heat causes it to act up again..

I haven't had a chance to get myself into the right situation, and won't until maybe tomorrow at best.. tonight i have things going on and won't be able to put it through the gauntlet that is driving from downtown Tulsa to Broken Arrow without using the highways in rush hour traffic...

My WP went out two weeks ago, but the car still didn't overheat, i live in Phoenix AZ and wheather was 110+, a year ago it overheated once but thats cuz my fans Toasted, were completely stuck,
IF your fans work then it good to replace your thermostat if still no fix check your WP..
Also what kind of oil are you using, i was using 5w-30 and my car ran sluggish after it reached full temp, but switching to 10w-40 made the trick and engine comparment was cooler, Good luck

10w-40 eh? that's interesting.. I do put 5w-30 in there. i have already done the thermostat, and the waterpump looks fine.. anyone else ever hear of the 10w-40 making a difference? weird..

have you compresion checked the motor just for safe measures? i really havent ever had any changes in the way the car ran with changes of oil weights. engine compartment temps have alot to do with alot of different counter parts, ie: header, exhaust, radiator, radiator fans, ect i really dont know if you just thought it made your engine compartment temps lower or what

I want to do that too, if bleeding it doesn't fix the problem; before investing in a water pump or a $300 radiator...

and I might just do it anyway, the car is 18 years old and all....

Check up
Hey dude, 10w-40 castrol syntec made that difference when it was really hot here in PHX AZ , was using Mobile 5w-30, but heard that mobile 5w-30 breaks down faster at hight temps and Castrol laste much longer. now that temps are starting to drop, i can now go back down to 5w-30 but going easy first to 10w-30 and then 5-w30. But of course Castrol LOL
