Thread: oil pans question

so i will be resealing my oil pans, does the lower oil pan have a pry point on it? I don't want to bend it if i don't have to...


Also after removing the bolts from the upper pan, how do you crack that one loose? TIA

No real pry point on the lower oil pan. Just use a thin paint scraper and tap it around the rim to break the seal.

The upper oil pan has two threaded holes on the transmission side facing up towards the block that you can tighten bolts through to separate it from the block.

^That is the safe way to do it and be easy when you tap. I will be doing this Sunday. I have to get a dent out of the oil pan on the UK.



^Get some of this on the re-install. I picked up a tub from Advance Auto Parts.

for the upper pan you have to drop the crossmember just so you know.

yeah i've read that gray rtv is some good chet....


yeah i know crossmember have to come down, exhaust has to come out, unless theres a way to removed the upper pan w/o removing the exhaust, but i dont see it

I've removed the upper oil pan without unbolting the lead pipe from the catalytic converter plenty of times. I'll remove it from the exhaust manifold and just let it flop around. That's the least amount of exhaust removal required.
