Thread: 100 octane...

there is a gas station near me with 100octane. Can I run this on my completely stock de? Will it benefit me? I assume I could screw with the timing a little to get some power out of it huh?

#1 the gas will make minimal difference

#2 dont mess with the timing if you dont know what you are doing.

#3 unless you have the ability to tune your fuel/timing cells for the higher actain and make the timing a little more aggressive the benifits will be completely minimal.

not to mention 100 octane isnt that high of octane to really be messing with the timing, most of the aggressive timing maps i have sen have been on 118oct gas to really see benifits.

i was going to get my car tuned on 118oct and they said icould see like 70hp difference if the fuel and timing cells were tuned for the 118, HOWEVER the extra power vs 12.00 a gallon wasnt worth it in my opinion

With 100 Octane you'll fell the difference from that and 91.

But get some 110 leaded, wow. You will feel that, especially with a VVL.

But you will have to replace cats more frequently lol

Let me emphasize how much you do NOT want to run leaded gasoline on any vehicle with a catalytic converter. Big no-no.

I am also amazed at how people think higher octane means better gas...it doesn't. It's application specific. Unless you're running high compression or something else that needs higher octane to prevent pinging and such, you don't need it. Just putting in higher octane will NOT give you a performance boost. Unless your setup pings with 87 or 90, there's no need to go higher.

I your using juice 100 octane would not hurt to have it in your tank. Honestly I think you would see more benefits if you came and ran your car close to the empty mark.

from what i hear leaded in ANYTHING EFI is bad ....i was always warned NEVER to put 110 leaded in my R1 because it would destroy the injectors

frankly speaking ive been able to get away running 87 on 17* timing...dont ask how or why it just works no pinging or nothing

Honestly my dad put 87 octane in my car running 19 degrees timing, I did not hear a tick out of place. I $hit my pants but I did not hear any ticks out of place. I do not endorse this procedure either FYI.

yeah, you can play it safe and run 93...last time i filled 93 though my fuel econ dropped from 25 to 19 and the car ran like total dog sh*t...last time i hit the drag strip though i ran 93 at 21 deg timing hehe
