did advance your timing through the ignition cells or manually advanced the timing?

manually at the distributor...stock ecu

if you want 100 octane and don't wanna mess with the tuning BS, just get a water/meth injection kit and run premium. No tuning, and even without tuning and more boost you will see gains.

the usdm sr20de was designed to run on 87 octane r+m/2. the fsm specs base timing as 13-17. frankly speaking, no surprise. you're within specs dude
start adding timing or upping compression, boost or juice, then the octane requirements change.

from simply running the 100oct you will loose power period. the only way to take advantage from it is extensive tuning. but on an NA set up unless your c/r is very high its not oging to be woth the troube.

its true though, higher octane fuel is harder to ignite..thats why its better for boosted cars because its got a better ability to protect against preignition..however in low comp/timing apps it hurts you because of the inability to ignite as easy as poopy 87

Correct. the burn rate on higher octane fuels is generally slower. But Q16 burns very very quickly, and has a high octane rating. You would likely get more power just by putting this in your tank, it supplies its own oxygen as well, so it will lean it out a bit and I think it would make more power.

Water injection may retard timing slightly by slowing the burn but it will also make the air going into the engine much more dense, creating more power on boosted cars without tuning. Not to mention the knock threshold is pushed back farther.

from what ive talked to with a few tuners, they've said most of your power gains from higher octane is going to come from making your timing map more aggresive. but there can come a point where more timing wont make anymore difference in power. id like to try race gas but its too expensive.

the q16 may make more power off the bat from a higher burn rate, but with timing tuning im sure the gain would be much greater.
