Plans have dwindled down to just replacing the short block or machining the crank and installing new bearings. (if it's any good) I believe the car was only driven for a couple of days before it was brought up to me. It's been parked since last friday.

UPDATE: It's not rod knock. Drove the car into work this morning to see if I could pin-point where the sound was coming from. When slowing to a stop, even after you have pushed in the clutch and the engine has dropped to idle speed, the "knock" rhythm slows with the speed of the car.

So, it's in the driveline somewhere. Any ideas? I might change out the trans fluid this weekend to see if I get any metal shavings, but I would be surprised if this transmission is bad since it shifts just fine. Which leaves me to think it's either an axle or the clutch assembly.

Bump for any ideas, before I start tearing the car apart. Got underneath it the other day, and nothing looks broken, nothing is rubbing on anything. Obviously whatever is making the noise is staying intact because the car drives fine. The faster you drive the car, the knocking turns into more of a scraping or whirring sound.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to something in the clutch, pressure plate or either the throwout or pilot bushings.

Can you post a video with sound?
does it change when you turn?
Good Luck !!!

my bet is throwout bearing failing causing partial engage/scraping of your clutch. My current nx sounds like that.

I figure that is probably what it is. I have all new clutch stuff that I already purchased a few years ago, just have to find it. (brother lost it at his girlfriends house) I'll probably change out the new stock pressure plate for a JWT unit, to prepare for the VE head swap.
