You can get OEM knock sensors for $55ish shipped on eBay.

Unbolting the sensor is the tough part. Bolting it back on is the easy part. To unbolt it, i had to rig up a tool (made from liiike 3-4 other tools) to get a good position to be able to break the bolt loose. Also, if you have a B14 car, there's a metal brace you will have to take off to get to it. Once you get the bolt loose, go up top and grab the wire for the knock sensor and pull the old sensor up into the engine bay, put the new one on and fish it back down.

All and all, it took me an hour to replace it (45 minutes trying to get that damn bolt loose, 15 to finish it.

Got the OEM Sensor for $65 shipped, so that was a good deal

I'm now looking forward to the installation.... NOT, but honestly I am kinda excited about getting the new sensor in and hoping it will help my performance and MPG's

Now I gotta question for some of you gear heads

Sometimes if I floor the car, If I look in my rear view mirror I see a little whitish cloud. Like my car just spit some stuff out. Now it's not smokey, but it's more liquid looking.

Could that be the extra gas that the car is not burning because the timing could be retarded?

When you rev the car out, does it start hesitating? That's what mine did when i needed a knock sensor.

It doesn't seem like it, but I am noticing something weird right now...

Last week I did re-re-re-grounded my maf. This time I took it to the battery ground. Used a volt meter and it got a .002 tops reading. I also reset my ECU by unplugging the battery overnight.

Well what I noticed after that is, I have descent power below 3k rpm, 3-4k it feels crappy, 4k+ its a beast.

It's kinda weird, if I gun the car I feel it pull me back a little until it hits 3k rpm mark, then it just slows down, then when hitting 4k rpm mark it gets a nice rev tone and puts me to the seat. Not too much but still a pretty nice.

But redlining the car it feels normal, but then again I never really felt what a normal fully working SR redline is.

I ordered a new sensor, will start from there, I'm really looking forward it, hoping it will do some good

hey guys, im from G20.net but i just joined here for the love of the SR20. Just thought i would give my info about the knock sensor. When i had my 02 G20 sport throw codes at me i received a MAF malfunction, Knock sensor, and heat sensor. I though i was screwed and that i would have to replace the knock sensor, but it ended up being just the MAF. ordered a new one and problem fixed..

ya, from what I've read, it common with the RR SR20 powered P11 and B15.

yup. i was so tripping cuz i had just come back form vacation. and i was running her got up to 6k rpms and all of a sudden she had no power...i was so pissed...when i looked up the part it was around 200+ but from some help from the G20.net guys i managed to get one from the Infiniti I30 which is compatible with my car...and i think it even works better than the original one.

Thanks for the info bmexicang!

If any other codes, other then the Rear O2 malfunction, was up then I would have a second doubt about the Knock Sensor, but since it's been there for a while I think this is it!

So the Knock Sensor has been shipped out, should be here Friday or Saturday. Hopefully it's not going to be too cold outside, because I want to get it in ASAP.

So I replaced the knock sensor today and checked my timing. The old knock sensor looked to be ok, but probably has damage on the inside...

My timing was at 11* TDC!!! So I bumped it up to 17*. Now I'm hoping the code wont come back again
