thermostat location
i have never kept a car long enough to need to replace a thermostat..

so when asking non-SR20 owning friends how to find the thermostat, I was looking at the hose on top of the radiator, and where it connects to the engine.

I just moved to Tulsa, and a co-worker has a couple of 240SX's and a 1987 300Z project car (putting in a Cadillac Escalade 6.0L V8) and i went to his garage to use his tools..

Weird location for the thermostat... the bottom hose's connection to the engine..

Are there any other motors that are set up like this? what are the benefits or cons of this setup?

well it must be based on which way the water flows. I can't see much benefit in the lower location though.

right, then I was at this guys house, who's doing an LS1 swap into a 240SX and it's set up similar, the thermostat housing is on the bottom hose...

Well technically, on a FWD SR motor, the thermostat is on the lower radiator hose as well.

I guess I just misread it or didn't see the point of the thread

There's only been one vehicle that I've operated on, that had a wierd location for the thermostat. I guess I just assume that they're all pretty standard, and the thermo housing is on the lower hose?

On a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, the thermostat housing is literally on top of the motor, if you remove the plastic shroud IIRC. It feeds into the "upper" radiator hose. The lower radiator hose which was on the passenger side of the engine bay went into the abyss, and I didn't follow it to see where it actually went
