Thread: Best air filter!

Anyone ever try the 'weapon R' intake systems? I like the design of the filter.

In dyno tests done by a performance mag over here, the cheap filters like Simota outperformed the K&N and BMC stuff by miles.

Did they do a filtration test to? Weapon R products are junk IMHO. Search for Weapon R reviews on google and you'll see what I mean. I've never heard of Simota or BMC.

Here's a link to a simota filter. It's a cheap and therefore very popular filter but it does work. A lot of people run them without hassles for years. THe nice part is that you can just chuck it and buy a new one if it gets dirty.

Never heard of BMC? They are direct competitors for K&N. BMC gets used in F1 by majority of the teams.

Pretty much the same price and style as K&N.

No they only did dyno tests for power comparisons.

Filtration wise I expect the K&N and BMC to be better which is porbably why they are more restrictive.

The Simota filter looks bad in a bad way. Its a foam type filter and those are proven to let a lot of dirt in, and even if it did make more power whats the point of even using a filter if its just going to let a bunch of dirt in? Also foam filters get old and crumble and then you'll have foam particles in your motor NICE! The BMC filter looks better but who knows untill its tested.

Although they do make some HKS copies which are foam. 99% of their filters are not.

Well the Simota filter your showing looks better than the foam version I found. BTW when you say it ran circles around the competitors how much more power did they make? 1 or 2 HP is'nt enough to justify getting one of those untill you know how much dirt they filter out. At least for me it is'nt.

Here's a pic of the simota I'm using on my VE. I use the same filter on a CA18DET also and there it made a massive difference.



As for the difference it made, I will have to go double check. It was over a year ago so need to scratch through some old mags. I'll scan the article and post if if I find it.

Over here we rate in KW and I think it was at around 3 kw (4whp) more.

A massive difference compared to what? Apexi? K&N?

EDIT: I will probably just buy a K&N setup with a velocity stack and see what happens and dyno it months from now to see what's best lol.

I would stick with K&N or JWT. You can get a JWT Pop charger for $109 here.

I was really surprised with the Pop Charger gains. Before I had an Autozone universal filter, then I bought the Pop Charger, it lived up the car, esp with the AC on!
