Does Lsd cause a slight power loss?
I mean this makes cents to me because there is more metal to move in the transmission. Does lsd cause a slight power loss? Has anyone dynoed after adding one and noticed this? Products like phantom grip which causes slight drag on the diff gears it would have too cause a loss right?

Even if it does, the benefits FAR outweigh the minimal power loss.

I believe it would cause some parasitic loss.... makes "sense" to me.

I am a hyena for dyno graphs now.

I've been getting this one theory that Non-LSD transmissions are stronger too.

When I first started out in the modding game, a fellow forum member said that my ribbed transmission was a stronger one then earlier models. Ribbed transmissions came in 98-99's with no LSD.

But honestly, I've never driven an LSDed boosted car, so have no idea about the difference. I've learned to cope with wheel hop, but solid motor mounts and new tires made wheel hop non-existent. It screeches the tires, but only in first gear now.

Looks like we are on to something here.

SR16VE trannies also have cooling fins, but I don't think they are any stronger than the reg LSD trannies. Just a slightly diff case is all.

But I believe the problem with the LSD box is the fact that it is putting a lot more stress trying to spin 2 tires rather than just spinning one.

A phantom grip only causes friction when the spiders are moving around (one wheel spinning faster). so I don't think the phantom will cause any loss. The VLSD though I could see considering it utilizes a viscous fluid to apply torque to both wheels, and this can cause drag.
