Somebody please help! B13 ser lots of troubles!
I just smogged my car. Failed. Nox was thru the roof. Timing is off and to top it off I have a defective gas cap( lame ass smog guys)

I'm in California. ( I know, how unfortunate right?)
Hell if someone is close to me cruise over and help my sorry ass.

As of right now, I'm attempting to set the timing. WTF is this timing mode everyone talks of and how do I do this? I already searched and found a description of it by someone who seemly is in the second grade by the way he was typing. Needless to say it confused me more than anything.

So, anyone please help.

Thanks tons!

Someone help this poor guy he sounds distressed lol.

Setting timing is simple, but you need a timing light and have an idea of what your doing. Make sure your car is nice and hot when you test, and double check all your tune up items (plugs / wires / cap and rotor / air filter)

I failed my emissions test with my turbo b13 even though I have an aftermarket cat converter. Showed up the next day with and parked down the street. Turned my fuel pressure regulator way down, and limped the car into line. Passed with flying colors!

Not that you should have to do this, but there is always a way around. Good luck!

If you failed NOX by a wide margin you may very well have an EGR issue in addition to your need to set timing. Retarding your timing to 13* or even 11* will help reduce NOX and maybe HC as well. But you will need a properly functioning EGR valve to reduce NOX in a major way.

What often happens is that the tube that controls your EGR valve (via the BPT valve) gets blocked and the EGR no longer functions. If you search "EGR tube clean" you will probably be able to find some write ups and pictures that will help you figure out how to diagnose this problem and clean the tube. It's too hard to explain without pictures and you'd only get confused if I tried. But you really need to make sure that the EGR is working.

Also, you will need to make sure that your AIV is working. If this has been removed or disabled, your emissions will just about double.

Come back with specific questions after you search both forums, or pm me if you need help.

I am very aware of what your talking about, thanks for your help.
I have checked the tube you talk about, I have blown thru it from the bpt side and had air come out of the egr temp sensor that i removed. So no clog there. Also with the same sensor out, I ran the motor and had exhaust come out of the hole as well, so no clog there.

But it maybe very restricted even though not clogged. I guess the only way to check this is to remove it ( should be tons of fun:cry

As for the AIV, (Air induction valve?) I dont know much about this.
Its the valve on the bottom of the intake right above the PS pump correct. The one with the adjustment screw on the top?

Im pretty sure this is what your talking about, am I suppose to adjust this also?
