Fuel pressure Adjustment
So what is the correct way to adjust fuel pressure? Now I have heard two ways to do this 1.While the car is running at idle. The other 2. Turn the key on position don't start, check gauge, adjust if necessary, turn off car, turn key to on position, don't start again, check gauge. Which will give me the most accurate reading?

Just prime the fuel pump a few times with the car off to get it close, then start the car and make any needed adjustments.

Another very serious question is how are the lines supposed to be run to the fuel rail. I have a lowport engine. I have never touched these lines since I bought the car but I noticed that the return line is going to the fuel pressure regulator, and the line from the top of the fuel filter is going directly to the rail. Are these lines crossed up I have a very serious feeling that they are. Might explain why the car runs like crap some times and why I cant get a stable reading from my pressure gauge.

if they were crossed it wouldnt start, an thats the way they're suppose to be hooked up.

Yeah, they are correct. Fuel goes in through the filter, then through the rail, then out through the regulator, and into the return line.

Wow, I always do this while the engine is running. With engine idling i pinch off the vacuum line and set it to 43-45psi.

Really, I don't think it would hurt anything, especially just idling. That's just the way I do it.
