Broken strut and CV joint :(
Separated my drivers side CV joint and totally f-ed my strut. As I was backing my car in a spot to wait for my trailer because i knew the CV joint was broken, the wheel just flopped out to the side. It was the sitting at a 45 degree angle with the top of the wheel pointing out. I went to check it out and one of the bolts holding the strut to the hub had ripped out through the metal. Tonight was a pretty ****ty one.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade your dampers all of the way around. Is it possible the strut failed 1st causing additional forces on the joint? Just seems odd for the joint to fail and then the strut - that is why I'm thinking the reverse......doesn't really matter since you have to deal with it anyway.

What type of struts are on the car? No name/AutoZone specials?

I don't even know if the struts were upgraded, if so then i don't know where they came from.

Well it didn't just happen... I was going up an on ramp last night after it down poured, started turning my wheels and nothing happened I just started sliding towards the median between the on and off ramp. I hit it, my car hopped onto the median and landed straddling it, it was almost the exact width of the inside of my tires so my front tires were off the ground. Had it towed to my brothers condo in the city so how its sitting there while we figure out how to get it home.

Well I've got pictures of the damage finally. The most concerning thing now is the bent tie-rod. What should I do about this?

Here is the strut

Looks like you need an inner tie rod, a new cv shaft, and a new strut. Not sure on the outter tie rod, but it looks fine. May need to be replaced though.

How exactly do you replace an inner tie rod? My add and I have been trying to figure it out and have no idea. The Hynes manual doesn't show it.

So we figured everything out so far as we know. Placing the order on parts tomorrow and hopefully getting it together by the end of the week. Then its on to finding the source of my vacuum leak
