Valve shimming
Hey guys. I'm shimming up some valves for the Tomei solid lifter kit I just put in with their cams. The problem is that I need a 3.1 mm guide, and the biggest they make is 3.0 mm guides. Nissan's OEM selection is even smaller - and ideas on where I can get guides big enough for this?

Thanks!

OK since the answer to my question is obviously "no, we don't know where to get those" then my next question is this:
Is it better to have too much clearance for both sides of the rocker arm, or to have an uneven set?

Example:
I need a shim and guide that are 3.1mm
They make the shims as big as 3.1mm, but not the guides. The biggest they make is 3.0mm

Is it better to:
A) order both shim and guide in the 3.0mm size
or
B) order a 3.1mm shim and 3.0mm guide

tough decision bro, and im in the same exact boat as you are

i have only been able to find a few sizes for our gtir shims and guides, been waiting over 2 months on them so far

have you tried courtesy nissan?

I would do 3.0mm on both sides. It would act like a valve adjustment many miles old. I believe that would be better than having the rocker arm tilted to one side, causing the cam lobe to hit part of it before the other, putting lateral forces on the rocker arm along with uneven cam lobe wear characteristics.

Remember though, I just make this shіt up as I go.

lol sounds like you made up pretty good plan to me
so why you think he needs a 3.1? worn cam or rocker arm?

SENORA: I'll definitely check courtesy nissan for those; thanks for the tiop
BenFenner: I was thinking the same thing - side-load on the cams would probably cause premature wear. I was trying to shim it to .14 mm clearance, and with the valve shim .1mm bigger, it only makes for .06mm difference between the cam lobe and the rocker arm - putting it at .20 which isn't bad
And I'm not sure why I need such massive shims - everything's brand new - valves, springs, retainers, rocker arms, cams.

Thanks guys!
