Whats the diff - VLSD vs Cusco RS Mechanical - Pic Heavy
Well seeing as I had one of each of these out, I thought I would take some photos of them side by side. As you can see the VLSD unit is a much larger bulky unit... the VLSD is also much much heavier than the mechanical. The entire case is also very very different compared to the VLSD. I notice there is a huge amount of oil passage holes on the mechancial compared... If anyone has any questions or wants me to measure things on the mechanical, it will be out for a wee while... the VLSD has been placed into a box now. Well here's the pictures. By the way these are from an RS5F32V gearbox. As a side note of interest the crown wheel on the vlsd was slightly different to the corwn wheel on the cusco. The VLSD is from a P10 Primera... the cusco crown wheel is from a JN15 VZR... so crown wheels were swapped so the longer gearset could be used.

The VLSD is on the left, Cusco on the right

This is good to see. Have you any experience with the cusco unit? Any thoughts on performance of the unit?

Yeah it was in my SR16VE powered N15 VZR Pulsar for a long while... I was using as a daily at the time too. On the street it was a pain really... clunks and churns the tires at low speed turning.... get out on the track or get a bit more aggressive on the street and thats where it comes into it's own. It holds like nothing else I have experienced.... I have a mate that owns an R33 Skyline GTR. He took my car around the track for a number of laps and came out with a bigger smile that he did after taking the GTR around...

You can pretty much throw the car in as hard as you want and it will grip... when feeling understeer.. you back off a little... the diff would swing in closer to the apex and straight back on the gas...

I pulled it out due to wanting to get it overhauled and checked for any signs of wear. Hard to see on the photos but you can see the little plates and spings that make the unit up... If you do track work... get one!! you wont look back.

I am currently hunting everywhere to find an RS5F70V gearbox (would prefer just the casing). This diff would go into that with my turbo conversion... so if you know any let me know
