it could have been ready to go and sorta fallen apart when you took the nut off. jack it up and check the bearing.

I have had this happen.I was able to put it back togrther for a little while ,but they didnt last much longer.
Also I usually snug the axle nut then drop the car down and tighten it as much as I can.
I have never hurt a bearing by overtightening, not that it cant happen, just hasnt happened to me.

nobody really asked, so I guess I will. Seems like we're all assuming it is a constant screech with a constant volume and constant pitch...is this correct? Or does it change while driving or pulsate at all? Bearings are more often a growl than a screech...screech is usually something brake-related be it a warped rotor, bad or unsecured pad, or just rust being mean.

Check the pad retainer clips. Sometimes they hit the rotor and make an intermittent screeching sound.

Ok so I check most of those things that you guys suggested and it is a very good possibility that it was the brake shield. After bending it way way back the screech seemed to have went away.... for now. I am going to drive it for a few more miles and let you guys know how it tured out. Honestly I was getting freaked out that it was the wheel bearing because I am broke as a joke.

I hope that works dude. I think I have the same problem - it sounds like a really misaligned pulley and starts from the moment the wheels are turning to when I stop completely. Sometimes I hit a bump and it stops, or it'll be quiet till I hit a bump and start again. I'm broke too dude. How much are hub bearings?

I was quoted $350 at Firestone for parts/labor to replace entire hub assembly. Do it yourself would of course run you much less.
