covert i made a clip but took to long to upload....but fri day on my birthday i will get you one....it is pretty quite under 3.5k but then it gets a lil growl to it...its 2.38 inchs all the way thru i think,plus i have the small cheap tubular resonatotr that came with the sentra monza catback(only used for the piping)

if you know anyone who has a new vw gti ,tell them to get rid of there resonator( it makes the gti sound so badass when it spools) and give it to you, thats what my buddy did...and its sort of small unklike that maxima/spec v muffler

Even if it's too loud I think thats pretty cool

It's ok take your time, I think I'm done spending money on the exhaust, so I will still be sticking to my current one...

well, the poly zhaust is out, they only sell to car companies as OEM, also, they're foreign.

Still, I need a straight thru, oval-type 3" muffler that does something.

You might just have to get a muffler from a V8....

For the last 8-9 years I have run a Borla 3" in dual 2.25" out (straight thru) muffler... It's pretty small, I went off the dimensions to find anything that would fit at that time, turns out, the application is for a Hemi Barracuda, lol... It's meant to be unrestrictive, so it sounds pretty mean and loud at any RPM.

that being said I bet a smaller muffler off of a Lexus might work well

the ES oal tuning exhaust is prett quiet ever heard it? there are good videos on youtube on the exhaust

I've had the 2k max muffler on my car for years now. Driving impressions are that during daily driving having my cutout closed gives better throttle response. However I did lose power with the 2k max muffler vs running without it (cutout). Keep in mind that was with a HS gen6 and jwt C2s, a I-H-E car probably won't lose as much power since the cams are a lot smaller. You'd be hard pressed to find a quiet setup that doesn't lose power. My suggestion is to run an oem muffler off a VQ35 car and use a cutout right before it. That way you can have power when you want it and quiet when you tire of the noise.

Back from the dead because I've got things to add, my new muffler:



I have an n/a with mild bolts-ons, Hotshot gen 3 header, OEM cat, and VRS 2.5" SS catback exhaust with the biggest magnaflow resonator that would fit. For over a year now I've been running the 6" magnaflow round exhaust that came with the VRS kit. Overall, it had a deeper tone and was not raspy. But it was loud and droned on the interstate, which was very annoying. Chatting with Ameen, he clued me in that somebody here had put an STi muffler on their car. Searching found that Vadim had done it and after some PMs with him over the details, I decided to take the plunge. Here are the pics of the magnaflow next to the STi muffler (with the original subaru piping and hangers):





Not knowing how well it would fit under the car (nor how it sounded), I took it to a local shop which used crushed bent 2.5" aluminized tubing to install it on my car (cost $75 and took an hour to do). Since 2.5" is too big for an n/a DE w/o cams, I don't feel too bad about the crush bends for now. When I drop the VE in, I will redo the muffler properly with manderal bends. Here's what they did with the hangers and tubing:

Here's a vid of it. Best not to watch the video, just listen to it, as my camera could not decide what to focus on. The last 15 seconds or so is the car idling, you can hear how quiet it is now.




I have mp3's of how it sounds on the interstate, and a comparison with how the magnaflow sounds, but I can't find somewhere to host those clips. Anybody have any suggestions?

I really love this change! I think it is more stealthy than the magnaflow (despite hanging down a bit) and I can no longer hear the exhaust from the cabin, which makes the driving experience much better. Butt dyno leads me to believe power is just about the same.
