Think I found a muffler!

It has something like a 5" outlet. So it's the same size as the rice muffler!

Ok. Now for some crazy-talk. How about a stock muffler with an electric cutout (butterfly valve like a throttle body). Here's the twist: use the same type of circuit as a shift light where it energizes at a certain RPM level (for our cars, say 6000 or so). When the circuit energizes, it opens the cutout to reduce back pressure and allow the vehicle to breathe. Anyone else try that yet? if not, I should patent it! It would keep it stock quiet until you romp on it and it would keep the exhaust velocity in the lower rpms so that you retain torque. It would be somewhat similar to the exhaust setup on the '03 spec V where it opens a valve to allow more exhaust flow within the muffler at higher rpms. The problem Nissan had with this setup is that it forced too much exhaust back up the pipe when the valve closed. To alleviate this problem, you could have the valve close slowly instead of suddenly and allow the exhaust pressure to equallize gradually and not have a sudden spike in pressure. The sudden spike in pressure was forcing pieces of catalytic converter back in through the exhaust valves and killing the engine. Any input on that idea would be appreciated; especially from any engineers we have on the forum.

I've heard of plenty of people using a electric cut out before the muffler. I think this is possible, but it's expensive. Little under $200 for the cut out...

I don't have my stock muffler anymore. so I would have to buy one, so that would just be too expensive. This is why I will be going to a junk yard and looking for a V6/V8 muffler that would fit under my car. But I have to wait for it to be at least in the 50* F hehe

The problem with the cut out and NA motor thing is that the cutouts are all slow to open and close like 3-4 seconds. So by the time you hit 6000k the thing opens up... you are in the next gear.

If you are talking about turbo cars then there is no need for backpressure and you can leave it open all you want. And for cutout and stock cat back I love mine

Very good point, if I would use a cut out, I would use it manually

Thought about it, like running 2 mufflers. That could help, but we don't have enough space under our cars

I could stick another one of those turbo mufflers that I currently have, but I dunno if I could find another spot for them
