Another interesting Maxima Muffler thread... here

Once concern:

On the dyno the muffler cost me ~5whp at peak and about 8-13wtq between 3500-4500rpm. However I'd rather take the quiet exhaust over loud exhaust any day.

I wonder if this 5whp NA or boosted. If NA then that would suck, if boosted I can imagine the loss being a bit smaller

On a side note, found this post:

Why did you need a cutout installed? What would happen if you would install the maxima muffler without the cutout?

man, did you even read it? he's running a Gen 6 header. that's all N/A and his exhaust is 3" all the way to the muffler with w/cut out. the max is 2.5".

the only thing we can do is run some CFM test. I can get a hold of a brand new Maxima Muffler no problems at all.

screw it. I'll get it and take some measurements. and then send it out.

Not too familiar with the Gen 6 gains... Cut out is a nice idea I'm actually kinda pondering it

Do you work for the dealer or something? How much are the new mufflers? If possible I would like to keep it under $100 but I doubt that will happen

Here is another interesting post. This is what coach mentioned earlier, extending the tip. I might go this way

The PROBLEM with this is the tip is about an inch forward of the bumper valance. When I asked a highly recommended local shop if a tip on the end would help with the gawdawful racket inside the car they said Oh no, won't make any difference. After living with the horrendous drone inside the car for six months, my kid suggested we try an extension, cobbled one together to test the difference, and lo and behold, car transformed. Needless to say, the local shop is now very last on my list of places to recommend; VRS has whipped up a short tip to paste on the back of this thing. I hardly use the Apexi silencer any more:

and I don't remember the diameter of this magnaflow resonator
http://photo.angrylabs.com/main.php?g2_itemId=73
but given it's 3" exhaust, it's probably 5", and I can't imagine getting any more in there given the heat plate.
Mind you, it's still a tad louder than my neighbor's Lexus.
