Alright a lot of options, more to think about. thanks
Im trying to see if it will fit into my 95 200sx, thats my next project so the more info the better

I will be doing this exact thing this summer, once I get situated with the move, and get the car back into my hands. I'll be relocating the alternator to the rear, and removing the power steering system (leaving the rack, and looping the line.)

FWIW, Dre just used the PS bracket (not modified) and mounted the alternator right up. All that would be required would be a re-route of some wiring. But, if you plan on relocating the battery to the trunk, then there's really no bad move. The starter line would be a lot shorter, too.

x2

its a variable assist setup based on vehicle speed. it has its own control unit, and communicates with the BCM, ABS, TCM, ECM and IPDM. if it had the same assist at all times, i imagine you would have some snap oversteer problems.

if you need anymore info on it, PM me. im a Nissan Master Tech.

also... I have a rear mounted alternator, no P/s, E- Manual Rack. I only run 1 belt, which rocks... I had the crank pulley machined down so it only has the inner belt drive. it was a bit of a pain to find the right belt [trial and error] but i absolutely love it.

I was thinking about that, would turning down the crank pulley affect the balance at all? I don't think it would but still don't know and asking...

Also did you calculate a new size pulley for the alternator since its on the smaller crank pulley to keep the charging system up? I am in the process of doing that then illl make one on the lathe....

Buddy,

I think I was mis-understood. I plan on removing the PS pump all together, and looping the line on the steering rack. There's no need for power steering with my setup, tbh.

Oh that is a good idea but your stock steering rack is geared taller for PS and would be a lot tougher to turn at slower speeds... So i would look into a new rack in that case built to your standards

I am going to still try and put an electric pump somewhere.....

im sure it would effect balance a tiny bit on stock internals, but mine has been rebuilt... so its been rebalanced. it does have an effect on engine vibrations, but i also have nismo motor mounts, and a jgy flywheel.... and its not a street car, so im not that worried about it.

also, ive never had a charging system problem, and ive never taken the time to figure out the effects on it, but if im thinking about this the right way, it would cause the alternator to spin faster [overdriven], leaving the voltage regulator to do its job. but... the only electrical load i ever have is the engine control and dash/gauges... i rarely have a night race, so the headlights arent ever on, and theres no radio or anything like that.

I would have thought it would be under driven... lets say the crank is 4" and alternator is 2" once the crank turns once the alt turns twice, then if you go to a 2" crank and alternator is 2" it turns into one to one???? I know in your case it doesn't matter but someone who runs headlights might see a problem

Anyone have more thoughts on a rouge electric PS pump, im still research everyones threads...

If you do it I would go with a mr2 EHPS pump (the later model the earlier ones don't have the fluid tank built in). The civics and some other cars have them too but the mr2s seem to be the most reliable. There are loads of gas into electric cars that use them with success. I wouldn't worry about the sensors, unless you really want to get into it. My plan is to just put the whole pump on an on off switch and keep it simple. If you want more info I would search around the web for gas motors to electric motor swaps. They will have more details on the wiring if you want to do the speed sensor stuff. The you might think about the newer sentra's alts for higher voltage, but I think the 80amp normal alt will get the job done.

I have been planning the alt to the rear of the motor/electric hydraulic power steering pump thing for a while ( mostly so I can open up some real estate for a crazy turbo exhaust). A lot of maintenance stuff comes first for now, but hopefully soon I can pick up pump and start having some fun

Keep us updated on how your stuff goes
