Thread: Performance brake pads

The only ways to do this that I'm aware of are to use the NX MC which gives more rear bias (not sure what the specs are for Altima MC) or to retrofit an after market valve. I'm not sure how big a deal this is. The reason I mention it is that guy driving a Sentra in SCCA events spoke with me about it a couple years ago. Basically his point being that upgrading front pads will give you safe stops, but if you add the right rear pads you can stop faster as well.

IIRC are brake are like 65% front and 35% rear. OEM pads in the rear is more than enough, either Hawk or Axxis pads in the front is more than enough stopping power for the stock brakes.

also, a 11" fastbrake setup with the 4 pot wilwood calipers is lighter than your stock set up.

At least 65/35 front to rear. And then if you put high coefficient of friction pads on the front and leave the rears OEM you get even more front bias. This does not stop you faster 'cause you are ultimately limited by the grip of your front tires. And this setup gets your fronts to the limit before your rears can contribute even the little bit that they might, so it might even be a step backward. I'm not an engineer, but that's my thought process.

For a street machine, probably none of this really matters that much.

Performance pads are made to operate under higher temperature conditions. With not much rear brake bias, the rear pads probably do not get hot enough to take advantage of the higher temperatures.
For the convention track day, I ran Ultimates on the front and Metalmasters on the rear of my B14. Roeblng Road is not very hard on brakes, so they worked fine. The Ultimates have a significantly better initial bite than the OEM pads. They are still on the car and the wheels are looking pretty nasty. I found them for about $25 a set at Rockauto, so I couldn't turn them down. Unfotunately, they were a closeout, so they are most likely all gone.

what about EBC Green Stuff Pads?

They are brake pads, just get some, try them. If you don't like, swap to another the next time!
