transmission wont shift
i have an auto 93 1.6 sentra as my daily
it wont shift into like 3rd or 4th

doesnt slip or anything just wont shift

i've heard maybe the transmission computer?
only things i can find is the computer for the airbag
and the main ecu

on my other sentra (91) that used to be auto
i found 2 different modules
1 that looks like the seatbelt control and the other maybe the trans computer??

any thoughts on what it could be?

i cant go on the highway!! help

hard to say really, but it could be that the passageways and valves in the trans itself could be gunked up and it can't shift anymore. My altima got suck in 2nd that way cause the guy who sold it to me forgot to put a trans filter in . While the a/t computer might do that, it's more of a longshot in my opinion.

It could be the shift solenoids, as I know 1st and R are typically run off of 1 solenoid, then I think the other solenoid controls the other gears? (of course you have 2nd, so that might not be the problem)

from what i've found so far
people are saying its a govorner that is to blame, a nylon gear wears out and u replace it with a brass gear
hopefully thats it

The TCU (Tranny Computer Unit) is located inside of the drivers kick-panel. This problem can be caused by several things..

Is your auto tranny all electronic or does it have a kickdown cable??

If it has a kickdown cable connected to the throttle, I would suspect that cable & connections. If all electronic, its probably a shifter solenoid of which you can test at the plugs using the FSM...

Auto trannies are a PITA to diagnose without the proper electronic equipment and the TCU dont store any accessable codes...

That's your problem! You have no TCU! Sorry, I didn't have anything useful to add, but thought I would lighten the mood a little. Really wish I could be more help, but I've had little/no experience with A/T Nissans, other than the Armada.

Maybe you dont have a TCU... That maybe a good thing in this case!!
Then you must have a kickdown cable... And that cable probaby require servicing, replacement or adjustments...
