I did it in 4 hours messing around the whole time by myself and the first time I ever did it... It's not hard at all.

right on, any idea on if that plate between the engine an tranny will slip over the flywheel?i think if not im gonna cut a line on one side so i can jimmy it on there.. i have 2 so when i get my new flywheel an clutch kit i will then put the other one on.. i dont have access to the tools i did before

nah, it wont fit over. I did the same thing, luckily I noticed it while it was still on the engine stand. My advice is, since you already have the trans off, just impact off the flywheel bolts and do it right. Really you only save 30min or less if you try to rig it on there, and then it might have issues anyway.

You dont need a clutch alignment tool.

Get the largest screwdriver or an extension for a socket that will fit in the back of the crank. Then get some electrical tape and wrap it around the screwdriver or extension until it just fits inside the clutch disc.

Wala home made clutch alignment tool.

So the bolt holes on the transmission line up with the engine block. Otherwise when you push in the clutch pedal the clutch releases and the clutch plate will align itself.

Great


The clutch can be off 1/16 in any direction and the trans will still line up because there is enougn playin the disc and trans shaft.

the impact tools are the ones i dont have access to i'll figure it out tho, i hate jimmy riggin stuff.

as for the reason the clutch needs algined, i cant really put it into words but i think it would create an oblong effect if they wernt aligned..

I've tried to get the engine/tranny spacer over the flywheel. It won't happen. In a pinch you could probably cut the spacer in one spot and slide it on, but you'd need the transmission off, and by that time you might as well take the flywheel off.

Clutch alignment tool is to center the clutch so that when you put the transmission on the input shaft of the transmission will line up with the clutch, and everything goes together nicely. The first time you press the clutch pedal in to release the PP the clutch centers itself if it's not already. If you could somehow leave tightening the pressure plate bolts until the last step, you wouldn't need to center the clutch at all really. Well, you get the idea.

If you had to do some real backyard mechanics, you could maybe loosen the transmission and pry it an inch away from the engine, leaving all of the bolts in place but making sure the dowel pins were disengaged. Cut a four inch section out of the spacer in the right spot so it'll slide past the crankshaft and you could theoretically slip it in there without her knowing. I don't recommend it though. You could end up in jail.

before you tighten any of those bolts on the shiftlinkage bracket you must hand tighten them in first.. all of them then tighten them with proper tools.

LMAO.. i'll spit on it first dont worry lol...

well im takin the tranny completely off so that i can find out why the rear bracket bolt wont thread it.. prolly have to tap it.. since dre gave me the idea on using a socket extension with some tape as an alignment tool im not so afraid of takin the flywheel off that is as long as the bolts are willing to come loose.. i've had really bad luck with flywheel bolts while they're still in the vehicle.. altho im sure they're much much easier to get to then the ones in my datsun pickup lmao! im glad i got u guys to steer me from the dark side, i really really hate jimmy riggin stuff.. gives me a bad feeling.. almost like tellin a lie.. or cheatin on my ol lady lol
