i have 2 alts, ones a ve alt (not sure if it would work on a de) but its 90 amps and then i have a regular de one, can let go for a reasonable price.. if your interested lemme know

Hey Coors, I just got a JDM alternator to replace my dying one on my NX (thank you, Andreas, it works like a champ!), and I can tell you, it has been a pleasant change; the dash lights are more pronounced, and although this could be total butt-dyno rice-lies, the overall engine performance seems smoother, from idle to redline. I recently invested in a genesis race battery, and I wanted to protect my investment by fixing the ailing charging system. It is a good investment.

P.S. do a search for Vadim's post on regrounding the O2 sensor; I went ahead with the Bosch four-wire, and it made a difference in the idle stability. I believe I also saw a milage increase as a result. I am running the SSAC header as well, with the AIV delete

If it just happened after the SSAC install i would get a new O2 before you get a new alt. The O2 made a huge difference for me in idle and response. I would though check the voltage of the alt since that is free. You could also try upgrading the ground from the battery to chassis.

Two things with one thing in common... bad grounds.

You need to reground your lights and alternator, I actually suggest you reground the whole engine bay with a grounding kit that a forum member sells for like $30, or make your own.

Here is where I did my own ground kit and where I wired everything up.

Next you need to get yourself a 4 wire O2 sensor, this sensor has an extra wire for a ground, instead of using the O2 sensor housing for the ground. Stainless Steel does not do too well with passing the ground from the engine block to the O2 sensor. Thus Bosch designed the 4 wire O2 sensor

I just had a new alternator put on my car a few months ago and mine does this too. It's probably just your grounds for the lights more so than the alternator if I had to put money on it.

Yeah I was doing a bit more thinking and came to that conclusion as well, at least as much as a first step, then alt if that doesn't work. Cheers

My car does the same thing. My wife's car does it. As far as I know this is normal. You car putting a slight load on the engine. As the alt powers up, it puts a little bit of drag on the engine. I would think that 80rpm is normal, but if vibration is of concern I would just raise the idle a bit.
