Check engine lights are just there to set the mood.....was there a sexy looking woman sitting next to you? If so, that is why the light came on. Sometimes you need to reset your computer. To do that, hook up a jump pack or jumper cables to the vehicle. When resetting the computer, you have to attach the wires as follows.... Red to Black and Black to Red. Then start the car, if it doesn't start right away, just keep trying. The computer may be dirty, if so hose it down with water and try again.

My $.16 bullet idea is cheaper... you could even use a .22LR and only costs $.03. Much cheaper than gas required to make it down the block.

Throwing away a car costs NOTHING. You call the yard and have them come pick it up. FREEBIE. MATTER OF FACT!!!!! You could donate it to charity, and CLAIM IT ON YOUR TAXES!!!!!

I think its the owner not the car. You can check your codes in your own driveway with a flat head screw driver and your key. If this is too difficult than you should not be driving. But if i had to guess i would check the exhaust lube, seems what you are describing that it is a little low and just needs to be topped off. Of if you do not want to do anything just get out of the car and walk away and never come back, doesnt cost anything and anyone can do it.
