Check with SR20GTiR. IIRC he's running an external coil setup on his B14. It's a highport DE, so I'm not 100% sure if that'll help, or not.

Should be the same, i don't see why not. I'm just trying to avoid getting another dizzy when i have one here with external coil that can work, and may make it easier on me to upgrade and diagnose later on.

My apologies, I guess I didn't really know what you were trying to do. I thought you were UPGRADING to an external coil, not just swapping the distributor from a newer to an older one.

The PDF then looks straight forward.

The power transistor like Jen and others mentioned is that wafer looking thing that's on the driver's side rear of the head, bolted to the head istelf. I think it's a 3 wire harness conection?

Sorry I missed this post.

The power transistor is a 3-wire device that acts like a relay (basically). When you ground the 3rd wire (the ECU does this) power is able to pass through the other two wires. The ECU grounds the power transistor, and then power can travel through the transistor which is connected to the coil. This is done so the ECU doesn't have to charge the coil directly, it merely has to "switch" the power transistor on, which handles the high current load instead.
