swapping to an external coil sr20det dizzy
ok, so my coil went bad in my distributor and when my det was shipped to me it had a lot of the accessories on it including the distributor and the wiring harness. I found this page on jwt

http://jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/DISTRIBUTOR%20SR%20KA%20CHANGE%20CAR%20TO%20EXT%20COIL%20AND%20TRANSISTER.PDF

I think i understand moving the condenser to a ground and connecting the wire to the coil positive but i'm not sure which pin on the coil in positive. I'll clip the plug off the harness and hopefully they are colors that are obvious...like black for ground.

The only thing that i'm not really sure about is the "power transistor." There is a note that says you must get a power transistor from an earlier nissan external coil type car. I'm guessing any nissan that is external coil would work...but i don't know what a power transistor is.

So what is a power transistor?
Also, I'm basing this on my thinking that the det dizzy will be put in place of the de. Is this correct or will i simply wire the coil into the de dizzy and change the cap.

its the small sensor on the right hand upper corner thats next to your igniter and throttle body. without that your car wont start

so if i'm reading the diagram correctly, all I need is a power transistor off of an older nissan. I looked on ebay and found this...

Nissan 300ZX VG30DE Power Transistor Unit - PTU 94-96 :eBay Motors (item 200345807866 end time May-31-09 19:24:13 PDT)

but it looks to have way too many wires than the jwt diagram shows.

b14's have internal power trans if i'm not mistaken...

and to do the external swap i would need a power trans off of an earlier nissan with external coil.

Right, that's why I said it doesn't matter. You still need the power transistor from a 91~94 SR powerplant.
