Thread: Wheel bearing replacement

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to chime in and help me out. I'm hoping I didn't do any damage to the spindle, by driving on this bad bearing. I bought the car in October last year, it had 118,xxx on it when I got it. Right now it's 30 miles away from 121,000 miles, so I haven't driven it too much.

Ill try to get some pictures up of some bad ones if they are bad on the car I am taking them out of....



Nope you don't have to cut that inner race off. Use a concrete chisel between that lip on the spindle and the inner race. Beat on the concrete chisel until the race moves and you have enough room for a gear puller and you are done!

If the bearing has been bad for too long, it will ruin the hub. Basically once the bearings are bad for so long, they grind down part of the hub so much that it's impossible to press on new wheel bearings. I just replaced the wheel bearing on my NX2000 and also had to replace the hub assy as well. It really depends on how long the bearing has been bad. You should go ahead and buy a new bearing and seals and then take the hub to your local machine shop. They will know whether or not you need a new hub after 5 seconds of looking at it.

That's exactly what my hub looked like. The machine shop took one look at it and was like "uh, you're gonna need a new hub". Oh well.

Well, I finally went to the parts yard today. Ran into a little problem though, they only had a steering knuckle from a non abs car. Does it matter if the part is from a abs car? Thought they was no difference. I was going to buy it anyway because I thought the guy was wrong. Anyway I decided to ask you guys first before I go ahead and buy it, I don't want to be stuck with a $100 part that I can't use, because I can't return it.

if you have working abs, it won't work (there wont be a place for the solenoid) obviously. other than that, should you not connect it, you're fine. But if you have working abs, 3/4 tires would brake and 1 wouldn't - a bad situation.

$100 for a used spindle/hub, damn! searching on car-part.com i found a bunch for under $75!

I know, they are expensive. The same part from a b14 sentra should fit too right?

I just want the easiest and fastest fix possible. Coheeds way sounds good to me.





So do I ask for a knuckle with the hub attached? Damn I don't know what the hell to ask for.:o
