Wheel bearing replacement
Hey guys. My wheel bearing in the front passenger side is bad. What are all the parts that I need to replace it? I want to get this done right the first time. While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at CSK Auto
Do I need one or two? I know some cars need two per wheel. I'm guessing I will need this as well? While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at CSK Auto

You need the inner and outer grease seals on the knuckle and the bearing. If your bearing has not damaged your spindle then you are ok but if you let the bearing go to long and damage the spindle you will have to get one also. They are about $120 new or you could go to a junk yard and get one from a ga16 sentra as they are the same on both cars.

What does a damaged spindle from a bad bearing look like? I hardly drive my car as it is because of the bad bearing. I'm guessing a 95-98 200sx spindle is what I need? Will the 95-99 sentra spindles work as well? It's been this way since I bought it last October. I'm sure it has been this way, way before I bought it.

My car has abs, can I use a spindle from a non abs car?

The spindles are the same among cars iirc. Also no difference between ABS and non-ABS.

It is easiest to replace the whole spindle/knuckle. You have to cut the inner race of the bearing off of the spindle and press the new one on. This job is not a lot of fun heh heh.

Most shops charge a lot to replace them, so if you can do it yourself you will have some fun doing it your first time.

Please forgive my dumbness here. Is the spindle/knuckle one part, or two different parts? Say I go to a parts yard to buy one of these, what do I ask for? I thought it was going to be as simple as swaping in a new bearing.

They are different parts. The knuckle is the part that bolts to the strut. The spindle is the piece that the wheel studs are attached to.

Look around for a good used knuckle with the hub attached. Easy and cheap fix.

you may well not even need a spindle/hub assy. I would pull it apart first and check. If I were you I would buy a bearing and seals, take off the front hub/spindle all together. then bring it to a shop to press out the old bearing and check the hub, have them press it on if the hub looks ok...that way you get a profesional opinion and you don't have to do the hard part, the labor should be less than an hour at that point. well worth the money and hassle if you don't know what you are doing. if you would like to learn, find a small shop with a nice service manager and ask if you can watch them press in and out the old bearing and install the seals, just because you are curious, not because you are being up their ass pita customer. Isurance regulations don't let our customers stand in the shop, bit for the nice one's I make exceptions as long as it is ok with the tech, some people are un-comfortable working while a customer watches. That is my professional opinion seeing so many people try to do the same thing and save a few $$$. In the end it ends up costing more. It is good that you want to learn and I am in no means insulting your mechanical ability, since I don't know you, LOL

you need a press. a machine that presses out the old one... take it to a mechanic shop and ask them press the old ones out an pre-grease an install the new ones.. then take it back home an put it back together.
