Thread: Where does this bolt go?

Well, I'll tell you there is no way it could be the starter bolts as I made sure those were tight when I double checked everything. So, yes, there is a way it could be something else.

Well , I guess it has to be something else, tell you what if it happens to be one of the rear mount bolts ill send you the 30 some odd cents in my pocket right now lolz

the bracket that holds the motor mount on? Just pulled my tranny yesterday. It's that or the motor mount bolt in the rear. check that bracket .

Could be one of 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the head. They've got some length on them, around 100mm to 110mm. You should measure metric bolts in mm, not inches :P That is my guess though.

Like the guys said, only other options are some mounts, starter bolts.

I have my starter out right now, and I can tell you it's not a starter bolt. Starter bolts are 4".

Looking at the FSM, it does not give lengths but none of the tranny to motor bolts are even close to being that long, it really can only be the mount. I know i have almost missed one of those bolts in the rear mount since it is kind of a PTA to do. The diagram shows all of the bolts and they are the only ones that could be long enough, if the drawings are to scale.

I just got done putting in my rear mount yesterday, Now I don't want to sound like a d*ck, but!, there is no way any of the rear mount bolts are that long.

The only one that may be even a little bit close would be the one where the actual rubber piece bolts the crossmember. But even that doesnt look that long.

Just grab a little LED flashlight and look at where sh*t goes and if you seem to be missing something that might be remotely that size go ahead and try and thread it in.

the bolt that goes through the actual mount(the rubber) into the transmission bracket is that long. the bolts that go into the transmission are the shorter ones.

just to give everyone a heads up, since this is a nissan all the bolts are metric. From analyzing this picture it's about 120mm in length and appears to be 14mm head (although from the angle i'm not 100%).

120mm is damn long, and outside of mounts i can't think of anywhere nissan uses a bolt that long. The only reason for that length is to pass through something and have a nut put on the other end. I'm thinking, since you keep insisting it isn't any of these suggestions, that you have an extra bolt laying around from something else.

i gotta agree, with all the swaps i've done the only time i've come accross a bolt like that was either of the motor mounts (passenger or driver side) also starter bolts.. but if he has the starter bolts in it cant be that.. i always have left over stuff.. but thats because the first time i did my swap i took an engine out of a car an put it into another.. so ya i had tons of extras.. the second time i only had the engine to deal with, but my ve came with auto trans an all kinds of crap.. so i had tons of extra bolts.. just double check EVERYTHING an make sure everything has all all the bolts it needs ect. an u should be fine
