How to treat my engine?
So I have this engine swap that's taken me a long time to get done. Basically redid everything in the whole car... So here's my question: I don't want to do any damage to the car by turning it over when it hasn't had oil to the rings for who-knows-how-long. I've had it nearly 8 months just sitting, and who knows how long before that. Is there anything I can do to get some lubrication to the internals? Would it help to put a little bit of oil into each cylinder, or maybe put a spray straw down there and squirt a little oil on the cylinder walls? I just wonder if there's anything, or I just have to suck it up and turn it over? Any help is appreciated!

you can put a little it of oil in the pistons but i would just turn it over and call it a day. might be other ways but i mean everytime you start your car in the mourning your going to have a little wear

Andreas recommends this magic oil stuff (forget the name) for your situation I think. Poor man can use oil.

Marvel Mystery oil. I've used it a lot. Tablespoon in each plug hole. Make sure to prime before first fire too. It should be fine.

Ben, what do you mean prime before first fire? Prime with fuel? I'll get some of that marvel mystery oil. I knew I had heard of something, just didn't know exactly what...

I've considered turning it by hand, but I can't remember which way it rotates... awful noobish of me, huh?

It rotates clockwise. Well you can hand turn it either way.

To prime it you take out the plugs and fuel pump fuse and crank it over for ~30 seconds the first time you start it. That way you prime it with oil. Fire it up alreayd!

a tablespoon of oil on a DE 9.5 to 1 or DET 8.5 to 1 piston is not going to do anything. The oil will just sit ontop f the piston

Put 6 cap fulls of the stuff on each piston. Then rotate the motor by hand. When it comes time to start the motor turn over the motor with starter with spark plugs out and a cloth over the holes to catch the xtra oil. Onc eyou have done so for about 5 secs then put plugs in and start the motor.

yeah definetly put enough in there to get up over the dish of the piston and down into the rings, I took a motor that was making 50psi of compression because the walls were dry and put some oil down in the cylinders let it sit there overnight then in the morning rotated the motor with the starter and plugs out and then put them back in and primed the oils system again using the starter till it built up oil pressure then started it to let the oil burn off. After putting the plugs back in and compression testing it it had 165psi accross the board.

The rings get dry when just sitting there and if it has no lubrication or firing to help push the rings out and seal it wont. The combustion that takes place in the cylinders actually helps the rings seal as well not just the rings against the walls. But thats my experience do that and your motor will be just fine.
