Rattling Noise comes and goes? *Video Clip*
I've been having this weird noise coming from what I think the cams(in that area) on my GTIR motor completely stock, this noise comes and goes...Motor runs normal.

*on video rattling starts at 00.32 seconds* sorry about the horrible quality

I'm not to sure if the gtir motors come with these but I know on the highport de's there's a timing chain guide thingy that the chain hits sometimes and causes a noise like this and we just remove this thing. Some 1 chime in and give us the right name for this part I'm talking about.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Check for loose bolts, maybe. I've seen loose bolts rattle around from the vibrations of the motor.

Not to rule it out, but I have only seen the Timing Chain Tensioner noise at startup, not at idle. YMMV

I would pull the valve cover:
- Check the lifters
- Look for scratches on the cams lobes
- Check the Timing Chain Guide (thats what its called); you can remove it safely

But, the Water Pump will make this noise too. Put a long screwdriver on it and listen...
Hope its not coming from the bottom of the block......
