i guess i shouldnt have brougght up the whole flywheel comparison to the pulley. but i was trying to get at that ''external'' components dont have to do with internal ''crankshaft ect'' components... and that harmonic balancing doesnt have to do with weight but like you said frequencies delivered to the crankshaft.

people i think get TOO freaked out when it comes to the unorthadox pullies, and becuase there are better pullies out there, ATI that they are quick to want to throw the unorthadox pullies out the window and say well the ati is the way to go... and i think that is total bs. given there are so many people running unorthadox with no ill effects. and like i said it would be too hard to actually say that the pullie contributed to the ill effects of the motor. so many variables

you are very correct tho.

The latter is flat out wrong. I'd argue that UR pulleys won't hurt low power setups, but when you start building an engine to insane power levels like 400 and beyond, you would want to eliminate any potential problems by running a harmonic damper (i.e. stock or ATI). The more power, the worse an out of whack harmonic frequency would be on the rotating assembly.

However, most SR modders aren't running that much more power than what a stock DET produces. There has not been one case of crank bending/rod bending because of the lack of harmonic dampening the UR crank pulley provides. I'd say that it could aggravate an existing issue, but not altogether completely cause it. It's a relatively safe mod. I guess the next thing to start keyboard jockeying about is eliminating the use of turbos, as they put more wear on the bearings and rods and ring lands?

Please understand the difference between internal and external balancing. It's another thing that makes our engines great.

Wildmane, this was mostly what point I was trying to state, I was wording my post wrong with a Balanced Pulley, when I should of typed a DAMPED pulley, I'm sorry for misinforming everybody, please accept my apologizes!!!!!! :o

all this and this thread started out as only a belt size question.
