thats not why the trannies pop, the trannies pop for the plain fact they are weak, they have a weak third gear and a bad designed gearshaft assembly and case. The b15/p11 trans have bearings on both sets of gearsets with a lot stronger case, this keeps the gearstacks from separating away from each other under torque. The old design has been known to allow the gearstacks to move away from each other pulling the teeth of the gears towards the ends of the teeth causing them to break and shred.

The newer ones dont do this because of the stronger case and stronger gears. Plus the shift forks and rods they are on are a better design and better alignment and alot better secured in the case which keeps the gears fully engaged even under heavy torque. Not saying romping onto third gear doesnt help but my b14 trans has lasted over a year and no problems with 3rd, i learned to just ease onto the throttle in 3rd gear, however i still speed shifted from 2nd to 3rd all the time and never broke anything. Initial shocks like that only assist in the separating of the gearstacks but only for a split second but if enough it will break something. Its not the clutch if you know how to rev match you will be fine. And i was running a 4 puck unsprung disk in mine for a long time before switching to a 6 puck sprung when the 4 puck wore out. I wanted the 6 puck unsprung cuz i like the response of the unsprung disks. This was with aboutr 280whp as well.

No wonder you're popping trannies.

lol, I'm not popping trannies left and right. My first transmission went 160k with 10k worth of turbo abuse and 55k worth of n/a abuse. The 6 puck isn't all that crazy of a clutch either... I was just curious if other peoples third gear experiences were when the transmission was cold.
