Thread: transponder key...

Guys, I just purchased a totalled 01' sentra se, and I guess it has a transponder, but didnt' come with keys - dealership wants freaking $160 for it - all I need is the key to test the engine to ensure it doesn't burn oil before i pull the engine and throw it in my car. does anyone have a line on a place to get it for cheaper than that, or any suggestions on how to test the motor before I yank it?

Hot wire it.

Or take your ecu, security module (or whatever it is called under steering column), ignition, and key put it in there to start.

lol I'd love to hot wire it because I'm not doing anything with it otherwise - any idea how and what wires to tap into?

that would be awesome. I dont want to yank my ecu and ignition out of my car if I can help it.

*edit* wait---can you hotwire a transponder ignition?

LOL I am not 100% sure...

I know that the security module and the ecu are paired together by nissan scanner tool and that you have to go to nissan if you want to replace either one, otherwise replace as pair with transponders in key.

Let me look a bit and see if there is a way around... I am afraid they talk back and forth so it may not be as easy as shorting wires out.
