Thread: RR hydraulic lifters vs B13/b14 lifters

Ok i just got off the phone with Greg V and for some odd reason he is showing the hydraulic lifters for the roller rocker motors are the same identical to the b13 b14 lifters.

Does anyone show differently cuz i know ive seen the pics of the comparision between the two different hla's Any more info on this and also if anyone has a set of the newer style lifters please pm me if you would like to sell a comlete working set cuz i cant find them anywhere.

Use the RR HLA's. They're the best out of all three HLA's available for the SR20.

I remember Andreas posted some pictures of the diff of the lifters and the RR ones had bigger oil ports. Unfortunately, I can find that thread again.....

Why is he banned?

If you are going to buying new lifter always get the RR lifters.


If you are building a high HP DE or DET and you are going to rev it high.

9000 RPMs and below safely

RR lifters
VE oil pump
Springs and retainers

For more RPMs go double grooved shims on both side of the rocker arm but you will need to do a little machine work to get the other side to fit the grooved shim.

What you guys need to understand about this setup is this

The VE oil pump will see 130-160 PSI at 9000-10000 RPMs. This high oil presure basically turns RR Hydralic lifter into a Solid lifter. ( The big port of the RR lifter allows alot of oil to flow in and the pump maintains the presure. )


Remeber the key to all this is the VE oil pump high oil presure

DE pump best you will see is 50 PSI
DET oil Pump best you will see it 80 PSI

Anyways yeah ill be actually using a gtir oil pump (same as volume and flow as the VE one) cuz Greg didnt have any more ve ones in stock or any in the country that he could get right now. So hes selling me the gtir set with pulley and spacer.

neways yeah im gonna pick up a set although its weird that he found the part numbers to be the same, i guess the only way is to pull them from a rr motor itself. But hey i dont mind cuz yeah at high rpm's if they basicly turn to solid lifters with that much oil pressure ill be good to go and wont have to worry about it which is what im after.

The GTIR pump does not keep the same oil presure as the VE one, but it should so the job.

yeah i remember you saying something about that but it should still do just fine. Especially since im using the ve block with the oil squirters, Gonna need all the flow and pressure i can get.
