Thread: SR20DET in an RX8

I know the rx8 transmissions are junk as a friend had one and i think his 3rd gear went out at like 20k.

It sounds like the fd is a much better car as far as performance.

I agree. The only good Mazda is the Miata.

You mean currently/recently sold? What about the Mazdaspeed 3?

Agreed the miatas are awesome, but so are most of the mazdaspeed cars, we cant leave those out.

There's a fair number of 4g63's that have been put into Starions. If I was gonna build a Starion I'd stay with Mitsu Power. Maybe get a 4G64 block for more displacement. A buddy of mine was actually working on a 4g63 swap into a Starion. I don't know if he ever finished it.

Crazy that the Rx-8's are not handling well. The Rx-7's that came before the Rx-8 were known for their handling abilities.

Personally I think the best of Mazda's wankel cars has been the FD3S.

Yeah, they are great cars but FWD. Rather buy a Genesis coupe.

There was another massive disappointment when I test drove one.

We thought about a 4g63 as well but then we would have had to figure out an adapter plate for the stock trans or get a mighty max trans. The mighty max trannys are hard to come by. We are both more fimaillar with the sr20 so we went with a red top instead, we didnt want to deal with removing the balace shafts and all that garbage. Basically we are gonna get it running in stock det form then modify from there.
We already went through the entire brake set up suspension, ran new fuel lines and put a fuel cell in the back, because lets face it 19 gallons of gas is very heavy.

Yeah, but the new evo sucks, evo 8 all the way. The new engine is garbage and the car is even heavier.

The genesis coupe with the 4cyl, in my opinion is gonna be a pretty sweet car.
