I worked at a Quiklube for 2 years when I was 18 and 19 years of age and went to a convention put on by Mobil Oil company and one thing that I thought was interesting that they told me was a heavier weight oil such as 10W 40 is better to use on a motor that takes some abuse such as a turbo motor vs. a synthetic oil due to its breakdown. Synthetic oils are better for daily drivers that don't get abused at all. Just some quick info for everyone to think about. I myself run Mobil Clean 5000 10W 30.

agreed, the shell rotella synthetic 5w40 so far has the greatest resistance to shearing down to a lighter weight oil. i've tried various oils including mobil 0w40, mobil 5w50, mobil 5w30, lubromoly 5w40, castrol 5w40. The mobil1 0w40 is great for the first 1500miles it was my favorite oil until i tried the shell, after that its way too thin for my liking.

I followed this advice at a few conventions:

How about this thread on the old forum?

I run the Castrol Syntec in 10w-40 although I do like the Rotella as well

It's kinda funny but I bought the rotella because I knew that the new SM rated oils were losing a lot of their additives. So I went for the diesel oil about a year ago because it was dirt cheap. Who would have thought it would work so well in my car?

$20 a gallon is perfect for an SR oil change and that stuff takes a hard beating before it starts to break down. So far it has been the best oil I've had to date.

We use Penzoil synthetic 5w30 and change it before every track day, monitor throughout the actual track day and add as needed and make sure the oil temps stay in the normal zone.

I'm surprised Amsoil hasnt come up yet. I love the stuff, works very very well in every vehicle I've seen run it.

this is a good thread, i havent done anything track related, yet, but im going to.. i only just installed my ve.. on my old de before i killed it at 225k all i ran while i owned it (from 165k to 225k) was mobil 1 non synthetic.. but now that i got my ve and im going to be takin it to track days this info will be very useful... right now im runnin castrol high milage.. just the conventional stuff.. gunna run that for a few hundred miles then swap to some synthetic blend.. prolly castrol.. then run it for prolly 2000 miles an swap in some fully synthetic.. this is where this thread comes in handy..

i've heard good things about castrol synthetics.. same with mobil 1.. i've only heard a few things about amsoil an it was positive feed back.. i wanna know what a good oil would be for track and daily driving.. i ran 5 30 mobil 1 conventional in the de till close to the end when i swapped in 10 30 an im runnin 10 30 castrol in the ve now..

so when im ready for synthetic whats a good road an track combo oil? i dont really mean brand.. pretty much just weight an visc.
