Thread: Heat wrapping headers.

I was looking around on GoFastDepot's website and noticed how inexpensive thay had heat wrap for. In AutoZone it cost upwards of 50.00!

I think I am going to jump on this soon but I would like to know what size and length I shoudl buy.

Should I get it in lengths of 15' or 50' and should i get it in 1" or 2" wide?

I want it to cover all of my header and my Down pipe before and after my Flex pipe.

How much GoFast got the heat wrap for?

For 1" x 15' Marcos is asking 7.99 + 9.95 s&h

I cannot remmebe the added prices for the larger sizes so I guess you will ahve to check the site.

It is a great deall, I know that much. I'll be getting 1 but i have to find out out what size will be best.

how does this hel?p? does ir keep temps down in the engine bay and keeps most of the heat inside the header and downpipe?

get the 1". i did it when i was still n/a and you can wrap it way tighter and it looks cleaner with 1" imo.


that is exactly what it does. that's why some headers crack because they can't stand the temps. i never had any problems and i had a megan racing header.

with the wrap i could shut the car off and about 5 mins later i could grab the headers because they would cool down quick... they were still pretty warm though, but not burning hot.

Also by insulating the headers it keeps the exhaust gasses in the header at a more regualted temperature, a rather high one at that. By keeping it at its normal temp from when it leaves the engine and not letting it disperse throughout the metal it increases the flow of the gasses out of the engine.

I am going to go with the 50' length to have some room to play.

How do I secure it to the tube on the header?
-Should I use a hose clamp?

I wonder if I can get it in black, That would be sweet!

i have 25 ft left of 2 inch wide black ,heat wrap i could sell you......more than enouhg tfor the primaries on the header...... i di min ehte same way as vadim...

50' is the better choice. 15' will get you almost nowhere.
I'd go with the 2" wide just because I've had good results with that in the past.
Cheap way to hold it on is with hose clamps. You can also buy specific metal bands for the task.

If you plan it well you can use less clamps than you may think you need at first glance.
