My Cali Legal 3" Exhaust
Ok, so after viewing XxToKeSxX thread on how to build an inexpensive 3" exhaust, I decided to build my own but WITH the CAT. Mine is Cali "legal" just because the cat is left in. Im not sure if it'll pass a decibel noise test so do this at YOUR OWN RISK!!!
I spent roughly $100 on materials. So for all you cheap Nissan owners, this is definately a thread for you.

Ok for the piping:
I got very lucky because I fould a stock diesel truck exhaust on craigslist that was 3" in diameter in San Diego for only $10. It did Not have a 90* angle, however it did have enough bends so you could make one if you wished out of multiple bends weldes together.

The next thing I did was to buy a resonator from magna flow.

Its measurement are 3" in/out 5" round (leave the heat shields on if you wish) and its about 21" long. It was a wooping $85 or so from summit. This resonator is shorter and not as big as the one XxToKeSxX used on his project, I believe his was 6" round and like 30" in length. I had the exhaust shop weld it in almost directly after the cat w a flange that was on the 3" diesel truck exhaust.

I had the exhaust shop cut the diesel pipes in a few places to where it would work.I'll post the pictures up,they pretty much speak for themselves.

Welding the piping to the back of the resonator.

Welded front piece w angle to pipe towards side of car.

Another view.

View from the side of the car w Coke can for refrence. Keep in mind that my car sits way too low. This is how I baught it and it defintely needs to go up, can you see it?

And this is another view from the back facing forward; Btw I used the stock hanger w the exception of adding one that is welded at the end of the pipe.

Heres a better side view:

And a close up:

And here is a crappy a$$ cell phone video so you can judge for yourself the sound. Enjoy!

Thanx!

Yeah I think my next project will be a header, and I'll try to hide it somehow and see if pass a visual inspection at the smog station or from a cop. Cops around here have busted a lot of my friends w Hondas w no CARB numbers.

Anyone have any ideas?

Pretty cool. Wow! You went 3" N/A? I just figured you had a turbo until you mentioned you are gonna add a header next.

Maybe you can make a heat-sheild to cover the header to pass visual inspection.

Do you still have the factory can on the back for that sleeper look?

Exactly the same 5" muffler that I'm planning on using. Good to know how that works with a cat in place. Thanks for the pics!

Yeah man 3" N/A! I have a VE I have plans on installing when the DE blows up but I'm gonna build the DE as much as I can w compatible DE-VE parts.

3" works really well!

About the heat shield I'm trying to some how mount the original heat shield on there so it'll cover it up but I'm not sure how to mount it.

As for the stock muffler in the back goes...

The previous owner put a ghetto ass muffler that looked like crap. There is nothing hanging in the back right now. I might go pick one up though at the junkyard to avoid some attention from the local pd.

Ahhhh, Gotcha. That should work out nicely for the VE.

legal... im not so sure it would pass the db tester, not that cops actually carry any. thats the same resonator ive got on my 3" exhaust, but im running a megan muffler and though mine is fairly quiet, i could see getting pulled over for it. ive got a sound clip posted in this thread.

Wish I could say my 3" exhaust was that cheap. Good find on the parts, very nicely done!
