Thread: i think this crank has been modifyed???

a while back i picked up this motor, appears to be jdm.. i took off the oil pans ect. to check the bearings to see if they were worn, well i found that #4 had no bearing at all #3 was worn, but #2 an #1 were fine i think someone kinda spun a bearing an took it apart to see an then slapped the oil pans an such back on an decided to sell it...

anyways i found these numbers written on the crank.. my friend had to take them with his cell phone cause my cameras dead



theres some numbers you cant see it goes 10 10833 20

i've never seen it on any other cranks so i was kinda hopin someone would know what it means, thanks

i'm probably gonna buy this motor to rebuild and also want to know if knife edging is worth the cost?

new crank

I wouldn't say new crank. I don't know anyone to put markings like that on a crank that would be new. If it were indeed new, it would have gone from packaging directly to motor, IMO.

its very shiney but i dont think its new..

looks like number someone would write on it if it were at maybe a machine shop............it may have been polished or rebalanced.

^^agreed looks like the bearings went bye bye and the crank was balanced and polished to make it like new. That still doesn't explain why you are missing bearings.

i'll find out whats up before too long.i'm gonna tear it down and have the crank,rods,and block checked out before i do anything else.i'm planning a full motor build on it so i might as well do it right the first time.
